As a Christian, faith-based organization, we request that mentors for Work Life and Faith and Finances provide a simple statement of faith. See ours here. However, there are many volunteer roles open to individuals of any religious heritage. We are grateful for the support of volunteers of diverse faiths. 

WORK LIFE CHAMPIONS

  • Mentor a small group of Work Life participants
  • Meet for 7-weeks of class and as participants pursue employment.
  • Meet only on Wednesdays for 1 hour at 11am.
  • You are invited to stay for lunch.
  • Relationships encourage application of God’s Word in all of life.

CHAMPION JOB DESCRIPTION

FAITH & FINANCES ALLIES

  • Mentor in the Faith & Finance class.
  • Mentor in the area personal finance for those already working.
  • Offer relationships, accountability, and support for using finances in God’s Kingdom work.
  • Faith & Finances is offered three times a year for 12 weeks.
  • Meets from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday nights.

ALLY JOB DESCRIPTION

LUNCH AND DINNER PROVIDERS

  • Provide lunches for Work Life classes and other daytime program participants.
  • Provide a light supper for Faith & Finances and LAUNCH Entrepreneurship programs.
  • Contribute more than just a meal that allows participants to focus on learning.
  • Stimulate fellowship and relationship-building that is vital for transformational change.

LAUNCH MENTORS

  • Provide small business and start-up assistance to LAUNCH entrepreneurs.
  • Engaging empowers and encourages with expert advice
  • Help from ideation, with development of business plans, and to Pitch Night.
  • LAUNCH is a 10 week program, two times a year from 5:30pm to 8pm on Monday nights.

HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TUTORS

  • Volunteer tutors work closely with students to help them prepare for the GED/HiSET exam.
  • Tutors are needed in all subject areas: grammar, writing, math, science and history.
  • Most tutoring opportunities take place during normal work day hours. 

MOCK INTERVIEWERS

  • Interact with a small group of Work Life participants
  • Prepares for actual job interviews
  • Advise on basic interview tips.
  • Each Work Life class (6 per year) has one mock interview workshop.
  • Lasts 1.5-2 hours on Wednesdays from 9am to 11pm the last week of class.

PRAYER PARTNERS

  • Commit to pray regularly for the programs, staff, and participants of Advance Memphis.
  • Receive quarterly prayer emails

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

  • Have a passion or expertise in marketing, accounting, data entry, childcare, carpentry, etc.
  • We have needs that arise in these areas.

ART FOR JOBS VOLUNTEERS

  • Contribute to the success of the event in a variety of ways: marketing, procuring art, recruiting sponsors, and staffing the event.
  • Must be 18 year of age or older unless previously discussed.
