Art for Jobs 2015 Artist: Caitlin Horton & Rebecca Phillips

memphis type

Caitlin Horton and Rebecca Phillips will donate a Memphis Type basket including a copy of the book and other related materials.

Memphis Type began as two artists’ obsession with the words, letters, typography, history, and colors of Memphis. These images are insight into Memphis as Memphians know it. In 2014, Caitlin L. Horton and Rebecca Phillips collected your stories and researched the rumor and lore behind these signs for a new kind of book based on this unique Memphis artwork.

Tourists and Memphians alike whizz by dozens of signs everyday. In Memphis Type History: Signs and Stories from Just Around the Corner, nineteen of these everyday signs are beautifully captured by painter Rebecca Phillips. Accompanying the artwork and historical photographs is the history behind the signs, as told by the people who experienced it.

Rebecca Phillips has also supported the work at Advance Memphis, creating the Art for Jobs 2014 poster. To learn more about their book, visit their website here.

Join us at Art for Jobs for the opportunity to purchase a basket full of Memphis Type goodies!
