August Prayer Letter

Prayer Requests for Our Upcoming Work Life Class

Our fifth Work Life class will begin next Monday, August 21. Please pray for our neighbors and staff as we prepare for this class.

  • Pray that our students would have open minds and hearts as they go through the class.

  • Pray that the students would experience the honor and dignity that comes through work. (Col. 3:23-24)

  • Pray for that the students would encounter a living and active God who cares for them.

  • Pray for our staff as they lead the class, that the Lord would give them patience and wisdom.

  • Pray that this class would grow in their relationship with God and that staff and volunteers would demonstrate the love of Christ to our neighbors.

Prayer Requests for our Programming

Our programming team has seen some changes in recent weeks. We've added some staff, and openings have come up in our Programming team as well. We ask that you pray for our Programs team as they work to love and serve our neighbors.

  • Pray that the Lord would raise up more workers for the harvest, and that new volunteers and staff would join the team! (Matt. 9:37-38)

  • Pray for eyes to see unhealthy patterns as we explore relational health in Work Life class.

  • Pray for our Faith and Finances class, that the Lord would be with the instructors, volunteers, and students as they study finances through a Biblical lens.

  • Pray for our recent Work Life graduates, that the Lord would give them a desire to work for His glory. (Ecc. 9:10)

Prayer Requests for our Neighborhood

This summer, we have seen God moving in so many ways. The last Work Life class that began was the largest we’ve had in quite some time, and we’re so grateful to see those numbers rising! But, as more students come into our doors, we also see more needs, hurt, and struggles with addiction. Please pray for our students, community, and staff as we engage these needs and learn from one another.

  • Pray for our neighbors who are battling mental illness, especially those who are homeless and have no one to care for them.

  • Continue to pray for our neighbors and graduates who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

  • Pray for mothers and fathers who are separated from their children for a variety of circumstances.

  • Pray for our students and teachers as they start back to school.

  • Pray that the Lord would transform us through the renewing of our minds as we engage God’s word. (Rom. 12:2)

Prayer Requests for our Staff

  • Pray for our Communications team as they continue to prepare for our annual fundraiser, Art for Jobs.

  • Pray for more men to serve as Work Life Allies and Mobility Mentors.

  • Pray for our employment development team as they continue to foster relationships with the business community. Pray that as they form new relationships, more opportunities for employment would be opened to our graduates.

  • Pray for deep and fruitful relationship with the local church in this work.

  • Pray that neighbors, Advance Memphis staff, and volunteers would know God’s love more deeply through the relationships we develop with one another.
