June Prayer Letter

Prayer Requests for Our Upcoming Work Life Class

Our fourth Work Life class will begin next Monday, June 26. Please pray for our neighbors and staff as we prepare for this class.

  • Pray that our students would have open minds and hearts as they go through the class.

  • Pray that the students would experience the honor and dignity that comes through work. (Col. 3:23-24)

  • Pray for the staff members who are leading the class, that God would give them wisdom and grace as they navigate the classroom.

  • Pray that this class would give students the opportunity to form new friendships with each other, staff, and volunteers.

  • Pray that this class would grow in their relationship with God and that staff and volunteers would demonstrate the love of Christ to our neighbors.

Prayer Requests for our Programming

Our programming team has seen some changes in recent weeks. We've added some staff, and openings have come up in our Programming team as well. We ask that you pray for our Programs team as they work to love and serve our neighbors.

  • Pray that the Lord would draw new staff to Advance Memphis who will help us grow in our mission to equip our South Memphis community.

  • Pray for wisdom as we officially launch the Mobility Mentoring program and continue to learn from the pilot.

  • Pray that as we continue to grow our Mobility Mentoring program that the Lord would bring us more staff to sustain this program and others.

  • Pray that Mobility Mentoring would open the door to long-term relationships with our neighbors and go deeper in setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound)

  • Pray for our recent Work Life graduates, that the Lord would give them a desire to work for His glory.

Prayer Requests for our Neighborhood

Our community in South Memphis is vibrant, filled with amazing people who are generous, resilient,  and determined. But we also see many who are hurting and struggling to find ways to cope with past pain and trauma. Please intercede on behalf of our neighborhood as we continue to reach out to the community.

  • Pray for our neighbors who are battling mental illness, especially those who are homeless and have no one to care for them.

  • Continue to pray for our neighbors and graduates who are struggling with addiction.

  • Pray that the peace of God would come down in our city and that we would recognize that our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against Satan.

  • Pray for our elected officials, that they would lead selflessly and seek out God's wisdom as they create policies for our city, state, and country.

Prayer Requests for our Staff

  • Pray for one of our staff members who is searching for a new home.

  • Pray for our Communications team as they begin to prepare for our annual fundraiser, Art for Jobs.

  • Pray for our staff as we search for a volunteer to assist with event coordinating.

  • Pray for our employment development team as they continue to foster relationships with the business community. Pray that as they form new relationships, more opportunities for employment would be opened to our graduates.

  • Pray that the Holy Spirit might show each of us how to model his righteous anger towards poverty, while demonstrating how merciful our Lord and Savior cares for his people.

  • Pray for the safety and health of our workers during the hot summer months.
